Overview
Located less than 25 miles to the south east of Salzburg is the impressive Festung Kniepass which took part in the infamous 30 Years War. Owned by the State of Salzburg, this fortress which stands proudly upon a crest, underwent a major refurbishment in the 1980's after which it also served as a backdrop for cultural events like concerts. The museum within displays some of the oldest prehistoric artifacts that were discovered during archaeological excavations in the area. Group tours are possible through prior appointment.
