Sargfabrik, Vienna

The reconstruction of the former "coffin factory" (Sargfabrik) was one of the most ambitious projects of recent years. The result is a big complex of flats and a cultural venue with an alternative touch. The architects wanted to create a meeting-place for different cultures and this tradition is continued in the program of events. Concerts are held in the big hall (from hip hop to jazz), along with theater and cabaret. There's an unconventional location, which can be rented by anybody celebrating a special night: the swimming pool, which has been rented for events like Middle Eastern Night in the past. The restaurant offers fine dishes and a set lunch (one for carnivores, the other vegetarian).
