Hype Club, Helsinki

Rave culture has again gone underground after a brief foray above. Naturally it centers at Hype Club, situated in the basement of Hotel President. Hype used to be one of the main rave clubs in Helsinki; nowadays it is one of the few. It is actually a number of club nights held in the same basement, which transforms chameleon-like into different décors every time. Each of these club nights embraces a variety of techno music: Screen is mainly house, and Labyrinth, Hallmark and Vertigo are more trance-based. All club nights have their own following, about half of which always consists of young students in their early twenties. Everyone is welcome. Admission fees vary by club night.
