Student Union Theater (Ylioppilas Theatre), Helsinki

Since its foundation in 1926, the Ylioppilas Theater, has been run by amateur artists who are mostly students from the University of Helsinki. This is one of the well-known amateur theaters in the city and was initially meant for leisurely theatrical activities. Today, it has grown to become a professionally run theater company. In the 1960s the theater group was in the forefront of the youth movement, a time which can truly be referred to as an era of youth liberation. Many prominent artists like Raila Leppäkoski, Atro Kahiluoto, Esa Kirkkopelto, Juha Hurme, Minna Harjuniemi and Aune Kallinen have been actively associated with the theater.
