Overview
Visible from the shore of Marseille, about an hour of navigation from the Vieux-Port, the historic lighthouse of the Ile du Planier stands atop its rocky island. The first tour à feu (light-house; lit: fire tower) was built there in 1320; the latest was built in 1959 after the lighthouse was destroyed during the Second World War. The distant shape of this lighthouse has welcomed travelers and immigrants to Marseille for centuries.
