The Museum of Mediterranean Archaeology, second in France only to the Louvre, occupies part of the imposing old monastery, the Centre de la Vieille Charité, in the Panier district. The Egyptian collection, bequeathed by respected archeologist Dr. Clot-Bey, spans the Ancient Empire through to the Coptic Period. A number of artifacts and classical antiquities from Roquepertuse (3 BC) and other excavation sites are beautifully represented.
