The Tourist Information Office organizes regular guided tours of the town, led by guides approved by the Ministry of Culture. The tours are all on foot and generally take place in the afternoon. Tours are usually themed: "Christmas Time" with a visit to a Nativity crib figurine workshop and a tour of the cribs in several churches. Other tours are typically Marseillaise like the "L'Estaque and the painters" (the birth of Cubism), and "Old Marseilles" (Panier district). You can tour the attractions on the main avenue: La Canebière including the Palais de Bourse, luxury hotels and Gymnase Theater. The tour also covers famous monuments like the Opera house, Forts of the Vieux-Port,the Nouvelle Major and the Vieille Major. See the magnificent Stade Vélodrome and explore the city's cultural side at the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions and the Château-Gombert.
