Overview

Guimet Museum was founded from the private collection of an industrialist from Lyons, Emile Guimet, who left it to the State in 1885. He had gathered many art treasures during a scientific mission to the Far East studying world religions. Over a period of years, other bequests and archaeological acquisitions were added. The works exhibited illustrate the art and spiritual history from South East Asia, India, Afghanistan, Central Asia, Japan, and Korea. Free audio guides are available in eight different languages.
