For thirty years, Arsenal cinema was cultish. Sponsored by the City of Berlin and managed by the Friends of German Cinema Association, the cinema specialized in showing those classic foreign films that you had never heard of. The cinema was small, dark and had uncomfortable seats, just like a classic old art cinema should. Recently, the whole cinema moved to Potsdamer Platz, where it is located in the Sony Centre's Film House. The new Arsenal has two screens, a hyper modern design and comfortable seats. Arsenal is just a stone's throw away from the other two multi-screen cinemas on Potsdamer Platz. But the mainstream theatres' programme can't compare to Arsenal, which has retained it's old tradition and shows classic and contemporary films from all corners of the globe.
