It was Heinz Galinski who brought life back to the Jewish Community Center in the years preceding reunification. Located on Oranienburger Straße in Charlottenburg, the building stands on the site of the synagogue destroyed by the Nazis in the 1930s. Only the portal survived Nazi terror and it is now integrated in the facade of the new building. The Community Center at Jüdische Gemeinde zu Berlin hosts cultural events and includes a kosher restaurant and a library with 60,000 books.
