Overview

Kino Tilsiter is Berlin's oldest operational movie theater. This small kino was set up in 1908 by a German family who owned it until 1961, when the Berlin Wall was erected and it had to close. A film-loving Sovjet soldier and his wife took all the equipment with them to the city, Sowjetsk, where they set up the kino which was operational until 1990. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, their son decided to move back to Germany and took the theater with him. He reopened Kino Tilsiter in its original location. The theater offers films related to Berlin and Germany, sometimes with English subtitles, and also international films in their original version with German subtitles. In their cafe, you can enjoy home-brewed beer and snacks. -Cassandra Bron
