Jazz Schmiede, Dusseldorf

Schmiede is the German word for "forge," and indeed this venue was a forge in its previous life. Now converted to a small concert hall, seating between 80 and 120 and with excellent acoustics, Jazz Schmiede is a venue for many different types of modern jazz. On Tuesday evenings free jam sessions are held, enabling younger talent to showcase their skills. The atmosphere is that of a jazz club - friendly and intimate with the audience seated around small tables with drinks. Tickets to all concerts can be reserved by telephone or via Jazz Schmiede's website. Seats are not numbered, so come early to secure a particularly good spot. -Adrienne Fullerton
