Heinrich Spoerl (1887-1955) was a famous writer and lawyer who grew up in Düsseldorf. The Spoerl factory on Tussmannstrasse belonged to his father and at one time produced printing machines. Today, the address is home to a number of creative outlets and the bistro Spoerl Fabrik. Not noticeable from the street, the restaurant can be found hidden in a romantic, back courtyard. With its Parisian antique counter, creaky wooden floor boards, leather covered wall benches, Belgian art deco lamps and gold framed mirrors, the interior is reminiscent of an enchanting, bygone era. The menu is versatile with some delectable options including: monk fish on porcini couscous with baby spinach and carrots, Loup de Mer with tandoori rice olive paste and artichokes, or beef tartar. -Shannon McKenna
