The lush, green suburb of Bergstedt is home to Bergstedter Kirche, a charming structure which is very popular amongst bridal couples. More than one thousand annual requests pour in for weddings to take place here, so if you are planning to take the first step of wedded bliss in this church, you'll have to wait for a good few months! Couples are required to pay a fee and bring their own pastor for the occasion. Being the oldest church in Hamburg, Bergstedter Kirche has no electricity- due to which a very rustic, old world charm is apparent here. The Rodenbeker Quellental, a beautiful valley of the Alster brook, is also situated nearby- so visit Bergstedt if you want to get away from the usual city humdrum and prefer a quiet day out embracing nature and a touch of rural-tinted Germany. Last but not least, the church arranges for educational programs, music evenings and also organizes choir contests.
