Vienna's Peter May found an apt venue for his theater, music and cabaret productions on the Fleetinsel in Hamburg's New Town. After he perfected the art of ballet dancing, singing and acting, May worked for various renowned establishments such as the Landestheater Schleswig-Holstein, the Schaupielhaus Zürich and the Schiller Theatre in Berlin. There were quite a few difficult obstacles to overcome on the way to his own Imago Theater as we know it today. His one-man productions of various authors' works, such as Kafka, Hesse, Edgar Allen Poe, Becket, Tolstoi, Ionesco and Camus have all been staged in Hamburg's smallest theatre since 1987, and become landmark works of performing arts pertaining to literature.
