Overview
Although it may sound strange to some, Leipzig's Südfriedhof is not just a cemetery, but also a spot to switch off and relax. Covering an area of over 80 hectares, the Südfriedhof is one of the country's largest cemeteries and lends itself to a contemplative stroll, being full of trees, bushes and ponds. The graves themselves are often ornately decorated, and many tell a history in themselves. Many notable figures, including numerous choir-masters from the nearby Thomaskirche, have found their final resting-place here.
