Oiled-paper tablecloths and lampshades made of cheese-graters give a feel of quirky working-class chic to this popular restaurant in leafy Kifissia. The menu is partly traditional Greek, partly politiki kouzina (Greco-Turkish cuisine from Constantinople). Founded in 1998 by Pericles Fotiadis, who spent his childhood in Istanbul, Berdema serves tasty traditional food in relaxed and unpretentious surroundings. In summer, there's a cool garden, and in winter, there is a warm, bright interior where you feel right at home. Additionally, there is live acoustic music on Thursday evenings. Grilled meats are a specialty, with a delicious range of mezedes (appetizers) and desserts. Complimentary liqueurs and sweet wines are served after the meal by the courteous, intelligent, well-informed staff. - Alex Martin
