Mouries, Athens

Mouries is a traditional, neighborhood taverna. Here you will enjoy eating good, hearty Greek food at very reasonable prices in the company of Greek families. The service is efficient and friendly, and the only thing to look out for is the size of the portions - they are much larger than what you'll get in more tourist-oriented tavernas. If the weather is good, you can enjoy the taverna's pleasant outdoor seating in the leafy square, otherwise there are of plenty tables inside. It is difficult to pick out one dish from such an extensive menu, but the revithia (chickpeas) are always excellent. -Mary Cochran
