Stavros, Athens

Stavros is a friendly little taverna, which is a great place to stop for some refreshment if you have been visiting the nearby Kalimarmaro Stadium. It is mainly a seafood taverna, but those who would rather eat something else need not worry: it also has traditional vegetable starters and meat courses. The fish is good quality but, as much of it is frozen, the prices here are a lower than most fish tavernas. The outdoor seating is in a leafy paved area set back from a busy road, and with its location being tucked away out of sight, this means that you may well be the only non-Athenian eating here. - Mary Cochran
