The House of Terror is one of Budapest's most popular, interesting and gruesome attractions. The museum and its exhibits serve as a memorial to victims of two particularly oppressive and deadly regimes in Hungary's past, both the fascist and the communist regimes during the 20th Century. The building itself used to function as a prison during these regimes and many people actually were held captive, tortured and killed in this building, making it a fitting setting for this museum and its gory subject. In addition to the museum's permanent exhibition, the museum also features changing temporary exhibitions. You should not miss the House of Terror if you are interested in the plight of the Hungarian people during difficult times in their country's history.
