In 2004 the Museum moved to its new seat in the beautifully frescoed and newly restored neo classical Palazzo Sanguinetti. Situated in the historical center of Bologna, the Museum displays over three hundred paintings of characters related to the music world, ancient music instruments (including a 17th century harpsichord and Rossini's piano), as well as a wide selection of documents, manuscripts and autographed music scores. On the ground floor, there is a reconstruction of a famous lute maker's workshop, complete with all the equipment, forms and paints necessary for instrument production.
