Overview

Halfway from the Medicean Villas of Artimino and Poggio a Caiano, this restaurant offers the traditional, country Tuscan cuisine serving only what's in season. It takes its name after the Medicean Barco Reale, the game reserve created nearby by Grand Duke Ferdinand II in 1626. The interiors and the menu are typical of an old-fashioned trattoria. Classical courses of beef and sheep meat—sheep stew is among the local specialties—highlight their menu. The wine list focuses on the wines of the Carmignano area which traditionally go back to 1700 when the Grand Dukes established strict standards for the wine production of their estate. Tables are set out front during good weather. - Maria Frullini
