Le Lance, Florence

On the Fiesole hill, this restaurant and pizzeria is mostly patronized by Florentines trying to escape the city heat. In summer, there are several outdoor tables on the terrace and in the garden. In winter, tables are lined up along a glass wall. Crunchy pizza or cold cuts and cheese on the cutting board (tagliere) are a favorite for a light meal. But the menu offers plenty of choices such as Tuscan appetizers like chicken liver or sausage crostini, homemade pasta and the typical meat dishes of Florentine tradition. The wine list features a wide range of local labels. The restaurant also houses changing painting and sculpture exhibitions. - Maria Frullini
