This fortification which appears to have been built in the 12th Century dominates the skyline of Camogli whenever you look at the sea, since it rises on a rock that juts vertically out of the sea. It has lived through many experiences over its centuries of various uses, other than for the defensive purposes for which it was originally built: prison, place of town meetings, site of band performances, and from the 1970s to 1997 it has been hosting the Tyrrhenian aquarium: its pools held several local fish, shellfish and crustacean specimens. Nowadays, after some expositions, it has become a multimedia documentation center about all activities sea-related of Camogli: touching the screens makes it possible to re-live the adventurous story of this town.
