From San Rocco you can enjoy possibly the best panorama of the Tigullio Gulf. The central square, closed to traffic, is the starting point of several trails along Portofino Hill and it is the site of a lovely 18th-century church. From there you can reach the church of San Niccolò in ten minutes on foot, a little Romantic jewel of the 12th Century set deep in the surrounding green. Every August, 16th there is a funny event to reward the most faithful dog. At Maccarini’s bakery you can taste the real gallette del marinaio (sailor cracker), while at Nonna Nina’s Trattoria you will enjoy the enticing focaccette with cheese. Reserved for the courageous is the possibility of reaching San Rocco by a semi-steep hike, which can be done in half an hour.
