Mount Vesuvius is a beautiful mountain famed for being among one of the three active volcanoes in Italy. It is also known for its mythical and religious importance, such as the snake-like image formed around the mountain after the eruptions which were considered to be a divine manifestation. No one can forget the infamous eruption in the year 79 CE, which destroyed the prospering city of Pompeii.
