Overview

A romantic garden runs along Via Libertà, an oasis of green on the most elegant side of the town. The "Giardino Inglese" with its three little artificial lakes, its thirty statues, several species of exotic plants, a skating rink, a good ice cream bar and a playground for children is a place where people love to relax. Designed by G.B. Basile and built in the middle of 19th Century, it’s a successful mix between Anglo-Saxon and Italian garden traditions. The Italian side, cut by Via Libertà and now dedicated to judges Falcone and Morvillo, has typical geometric flower beds and an equestrian statue of G. Garibaldi, leader of Italian nationalization. The remaining part develops on seven hills and various depressions crossed by winding paths, adorned by fountains and remarkable specimens of Palm, Dracaena and Ficus Macrophylla, called "strangler tree" because of its wild growth. There are often fairs and other events held here. - Valentina Caviglia
