This was the last palace built by the Normans during their stay in Palermo and Sicily. Some Arab influences can be noticed, since the actual construction was commissioned to Arab engineers. Its location was chosen due to the proximity of the Palazzo Reale, the existence of water from a nearby stream and the magnificent surrounding gardens. The structure of the building is quite simple, its most outstanding feature being four painted blind windows and, inside, a room featuring muqarnas (Arab decorations).
