The renowned art of Sicilian majolica is optimally represented by the fine creations of Le Stanze del Gattopardo. This little workshop, directed by architect Toni Pantuso, is located in the elegant pedestrian zone of Magliocco street, originally conceived by Pantuso himself. Traditional shapes, colors and patterns of Sicilian and Mediterranean pottery are renewed and revisited by this careful artist and director, who knows them deeply having studied their development in time and space. The insertion of new patterns, such as evocative views and maps of the old town, grape harvest scenes, giant ocelots (the so called gattopardo, a literary symbol of Sicilian spirit) and many more allegoric subjects, appear in perfect harmony with the originals dating to the Renaissance, Baroque and ancient Arabia. The workshop produces majolica (or maiolica) pots, plates, bottles and also beautiful handcrafted tiles, and has contributed to the decoration of high class hotels and houses. Their flagship in this field is certainly the well-executed repair of the nearby Massimo Theater golden balconies.
