This bar faces onto Piazzale Santa Croce, at the end of Via D'Azeglio and the start of Via Gramsci, where the Ospedale "Maggiore" stands. It is right opposite the beautiful Romanesque church of Santa Croce, and is not far away from one of the entrances into the Giardino Ducale. The Bar Monica is very popular with local habitués who come here for a cup of coffee. During the Summer it has tables outside (although the location is not ideal given the amount of traffic which passes by) and these are always full. As well as a normal bar service - cappuccino, sandwiches, brioches, toast, and so on - this bar also boasts a series of offers which will make your mouth water. An entire section of the bar is devoted to selling wines varying from from Malvasia to Champagne, liqueurs including limoncino and whisky which has been matured for 18 years, all sorts of sweet things such as desserts, spongate (a kind of Christmas cake from Emilia-Romagna), panettone, and chocolates, a specialty food products including cherries preserved in alcohol, dried fruits, and rare jams.
