Overview

If you head for Florence from Forlì on route 67, you will come to the pretty villages in the Montone valley, Castrocaro, Terra del Sole, Portico di Romagna and San Benedetto in Alpe about 100 kilometers from Forlì. Walking out of San Benedetto in Alpe (where there is a lovely 10th Century Benedictine abbey), in a couple of hours you will reach the spectacular Aquacheta waterfall on a path that presents no difficulty even to beginners. Dante described the waterfall and its setting in the 16th Canto of Inferno. Standing at the top of the Aquacheta, you have a view across the whole of the Montone valley. It is perfect for camping. You can go canoeing on the river and will see people out riding horses.
