In 1981 this museum was opened in the halls of Malatesta Fortress with the specific purpose of creating a place for research and a way to spread a vital image of the town of Mondaino. There are primarily fossils here, some from fishes, others from leaves, and rare bird wings and feathers. But you can also admire marvelous shark teeth, which are probably even longer than 30 meters. Treasures, great and small, are on display here, mostly coming from the land close to Mondaino. They have been formed over the last 200 million years, starting from a time when even those mountainous lands here in Romagna were covered with sea water. The most evident explanation of this sedimentation process is definitely shown by the mummy fish fossil. The discovery of the fossils DNA is also an important task to make the point on our actual knowledge about the whole matter.
