Overview

At about 40 kilometers south of Rimini, Pesaro is well-known for its beaches and for being the birthplace of the great opera composer Giocchino Rossini. The Rossini Opera Festival takes place here every summer and presents both Rossini's classical masterpieces and unknown titles. The house where the musician was born on 29 February 1792 is located in the town center and has been turned into a museum. It gathers some memorabilia, including many prints portraying the composer and one of his spinets. It is also worth mentioning the drawing by Gustave Doré picturing Rossini in his last days. - Maria Frullini
