Overview
Situated over a steep drop about 30 kilometers from Rimini, the picturesque castle of San Leo was considered unassailable. The recently restored Cathedral of San Leone stands on a rock mass in a place that has been sacred to various peoples since prehistory. The Cathedral is one of the most unusual examples of Romanesque architecture in central Italy and is the highest expression of medieval architecture in Montefeltro. Besides the Cathedral, the visitor can admire the Palazzo Mediceo, the Palazzo della Rovere, the square with its romantic church, and the fort where Cagliostro was imprisoned and which contains instruments of torture.
