This is the most famous sanctuary in Val Conca. It dates from the early 15th Century when a certain Bonora Ondidei had a wall of a shrine built in the woods frescoed with a picture of the Madonna weaning the baby Jesus. In 1409, the hermit left his small shrine to the Franciscan order. The wall with the image of the Madonna (now called the Madonna di Bonora) still survives. The sanctuary was slowly built around the image over the 200 years it was in the charge of the Franciscans. The image of the Madonna di Bonora was officially crowned in 1926. Over the last few decades, the sanctuary has been restored and radically transformed.
