A visit to this unusual workshop is the perfect way to learn about the ancient and characteristic local folk traditions. The Stamperia Mangano is both a peasant craft school and an exhibition of local artifacts. The Santarcangelo workshop dates right back to the 17th Century and still stamps canvas with the same colors, methods and wood blocks which have now become part of the local decorative art heritage. It will be interesting to learn about the use the artisans have found for rust, for a touch of authenticity in the colors with which the panels of peasant civilization are prepared. You will also be able to see how the canvas is made shiny with the Mangano a ruota, a stone and wood instrument of the 17th Century, the only one of its size and weight still in existence.
