At around 15 kilometers from Rimini you will come across the site of the ancient Villanoviani civilisation which is over 3000 years old. Finds from this important site can be seen in the Museo Archeologico in the old Sant'Agostino convent. The town's name has been linked with the Malatesta family since 1000 CE and today Verucchio is known by everyone to be the cradle of the Malatestas. There is a wonderful view from the town which spreads from the Valle del Marecchia to the sea. Verucchio means Vero Occhio (literally "True Eye") and was clearly given this name because of its excellent strategic location. During the Summer months, classical and ethnic music concerts take place in the Arena Mura del Fossato in the open air. This is part of the Verucchio Festival as well as the Feste dei Malatesta, and also involves feasts and medieval dancing which brighten up this quiet town during the hot August nights.
