These two cinemas are located where the historical Teatro Re, which took its name from Venanzio Re, was located. The theater was built by Venanzio Re at the beginning of the 19th Century, in the complex of the Monastero del Senatore. The monastery's church became a theater in which popular plays and puppet shows were performed. It was later enlarged so that it was eventually capable of holding 700 people and began to host amateur dramatics. When the Teatro Guidi became popular, the slow decline of Teatro Re began and it closed down in 1874. Today it has again become famous, this time for its two cinema screens. The Corallo is the largest screen and shows commercially successful films, and the Ritz is the smaller screen showing art house and quality films which are not shown in most cinemas.
