Imperial Rostra was used as a podium, from where kings addressed their subjects, gave speeches and declared policies. The place has still an air of royalty about itself and even a visitor ignorant of history gets a shiver imagining the scores of soldiers and people standing on the ground eager to hear the king. There are various such rostras built by successive kings, famous among these is the Rostra Augusti. With the decline of empires and rise of democracies, it began to be used lesser and lesser, and now only remains as a monument of history.
