Overview
The building that houses this museum is rather like those painted by De Chirico. The museum was founded by Mussolini to commemorate the 2000 years that had passed since the empire of Augustus. There are scale models of Roman monuments such as the Trajan Column and the labyrinths below the Colosseum. The most important item is a giant model of Rome in the 4th Century CE showing famous palaces in their original state during the reign of Emperor Constantine. Check out the website for more details.
