This church is quite original in the fact that, although it obeys the form of a Roman church, it is actually an Eastern-Catholic temple. The mass is celebrated in Aramaic, the language spoken by Jesus Christ. This is an ancient church; it was founded in the 8th Century CE by a group of nuns from Constantinople, who sought refuge in Rome. The building then passed to the Benedictine order and became an important center What we admire today, is a work of reconstruction which was carried out by Antonio de Rossi in the 17th Century. To enter the church, it is necessary to pass through a courtyard, also constructed by Rossi, which separates the chaos of the town from the sacredness of the place and its shape gives the impression of great space and creates a pleasant corner of peace and quiet. Above the altar, there is a splendid icon of Our Lady, which comes from Constantinople and dates from about the 13th Century
