Via Tiburtina was built by Marcus Valerius Maximus over 2000 years ago in 286 BC. Covering over 200 kilometers of road, from Rome to Tivoli, historians have determined that this road was of critical importance for trade and was a useful thoroughfare for the ancient Romans. Via Tiburtina runs through a fairly winding path, sometimes running parallel to the Anio River while offering scenic views of the Italian countryside. Till this date, the road continues to be of significance and local cultural events and processions pass through it.
