Overview
The basilica is in the classic three nave Latin cross design and has an unusual history in that almost 150 years separated the start of construction from the consecration of the building in 1533 due to a continuous string of problems. It stands on the earlier church of San Clemente and has works by Manetti and Matteo di Giovanni.
