Overview

Siena is not completely and irremediably Gothic in style. The proof is this Baroque construction, although it is somewhat restrained by Baroque standards and is clearly affected by classical canons. The bell-tower, however, is by Del Dugento and this is clearly evident. There are some experts who consider it was built to celebrate the victory of Montaperti (1260) and they may be right.
