Near one of Trieste's popular areas, in Borgo San Sergio, 1976 and 1977 saw the restoration of the remains of this Roman acqueduct, coming from Val Rosandra, possibly the most beautiful and attractive area in Carso, just outside the city. Today you can visit the canal partiallly excavated in the marble, sandstone substrata and five shafts. But this is not all. Near to the aqueduct where there is now some very modern housing, the remains of an ancient Roman villa were also found with pieces of crockery, cups and tiles also coming to light, all dating back to around 1 BCE Guided tours and out of hours visits are available on request.
