Overview

People are always queuing to get an ice cream at this historical café located almost in front of Porta Nuova, the Art Deco main railway station of Turin. Chocolate manufacturer Michele Talmone founded the coffee and pastry shop in 1883. It has changed its venue a few times but was finally established at the current address in the first half of the 19th Century. Most of the furnishing dates back to the original café, such as the counter and the small tables that are decorated with mother of pearl and opal glass; however, it is not for its décor that people patronize Caffè Roma: their specialties are the "Talmoncino"(coffee, milk cream and dark chocolate in a glass), mignon pastries (daily prepared by their bakery) and "Gianduiotti" chocolate. It is open for breakfast, lunch, aperitif and after-dinner. -Maria Frullini
