Colombina (La), Venice

This bar transforms into a restaurant at meal times and can be found behind the Palazzo Vendramin Calergi, the Casinò's winter venue, not far from Cà d'Oro. It opens its doors very early in the morning and so it is the ideal place to stop and have a coffee and a brioche for breakfast. The customers are mostly Venetians who pit-stop here for a coffee or a glass of wine. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and although small, the charming setting does attract a few tourists. The food is very good and once in a while the restaurant organizes theme nights during which typical Venetian fish dishes are served along with wine samplings. The wine shop is well stocked with a range of wines, local and foreign, red and white, sparkling and still.
