Barge Inn, Dublin

The Barge Inn is a mega-pub that sits right beside the Grand Canal. It has three split levels and lots of nooks and crannies in which you can settle for the evening. They serve food during the day and have a limited menu in the evening. On warm days hardly anyone sits in the bar, as most are out dangling their feet above the canal. The pub is often filled Thursday through Sunday nights for the DJs and live music events that attract a young and hip crowd. The bar can sometimes become uncomfortably full and is not the venue if you are seeking a pint and a quiet chat. However, during the day the Barge Inn is a nice place to eat some lunch and watch the swans paddle about in the canal. - Gerry Coburn
