Overview
The Sheep and Wool museum has on display looms, spinning wheels and other related machinery which have been reactivated to allow visitors a peek into the environmentally friendly systems of wool making. Get yourself a fascinating education on how even thousands of years ago, plants, insects and shellfish were used to create colors. Man's relentless desire to play with nature for his own selfish pursuits for more meat and wool, resulted in a disaster of cross sheep breeds. Efforts are now being made to preserve the original gene pool. The exhibits at this museum will be well worth your time.
- Type:
Arts & Museums
- Venue Description:
The sheep and Wool Centre was started in 1992, to conserve and put on display all items involved in the wool making process in Ireland. Besides the museum itself, you can take a walk amongst the sheep outdoors, or sample some of the authentic Irish food like carrot cake. The souvenir shop lets you pick up woolen crafts at reasonable rates. A visit here is an ideal way to get away from the bustle of the city and become more conscious of the need to conserve and protect our heritage, which is slowly dying while we pursue our urbane materialistic life.
