Overview

Located on the road which joins Arucas with Bañaderos and near the northern coast, are the Marquesa de Arucas (Marchioness of Arucas) house and gardens, owned by the person of the same name. The house was built, hardly 1 kilometre from the old part of the city, around 1880, at the initiative of Ramón Madam, the first Marquis de Arucas, who was given the title by King Alfonso XIII in 1911. However, although the house is lovely, the Romantic gardens are the most attractive feature of this property, and have been declared by the Canary Islands government to be worth conserving because of their aesthetic and botanical interest. There are examples of tropical and subtropical flora in these gardens. For more information, call the Tourism Office at the above number. Admission: free
